Rathaus Köpenick

Rathaus Köpenick

Das Rathaus Köpenick ("Köpenick City Hall") is located in the district Treptow-Köpenick. The City Hall became world-famous exactly one year after its opening when the 57 years old, unemployed shoemaker Friedrich Wilhelm Voigt had mayor Georg Langerhans arrested on October 16, 1906 and confiscated the city treasury. The coup was not revealed before the previously convicted Voigt could disappear. He was arrested ten days later and became part of history as Hauptmann von Köpenick ("Captain of Köpenick").
