The Brandenburg Gate on the "Pariser Platz" ("Paris square") is the monumental entry to the boulevard "Unter den Linden". The Straße des 17. Juni ("17 June Street") which runs through the Tiergarten ("Animal Garden") starts at the west side of the gate. The Brandenburg Gate used to mark the border between East and West Berlin and was a symbol of the Cold War until the reunification of Germany. After 1990, it has become a symbol of the reunification of Germany and Europe.
